TRAINING AND CONDITIONING

Summers in Louisiana have high temperatures, averaging 90° F or more and overnight lows averaging above 70° F. Coupled with high humidity levels, you can feel even warmer. It is important to remember that your Swamp Base experience isn't just a long-distance paddle, it's a HIGH adventure program.

To safely enjoy such adventures everyone must arrive physically prepared. Conditioning your body not only improves your endurance - it helps prevent injuries, sore muscles, and strains. Paddling will require the use of arms, upper body, and torso; while the portage will require additional back and leg strength. It is important that everyone be in very good condition so that both youth and adults can participate in the level of adventure that they deserve.

It is also important that your crew has taken the time to get out on a trip together. Training as a Crew improves communication and increases efficiency while trekking!
