SUNSCREEN FOR THE WIN!

Of all the concerns that may come to mind when thinking of the Swamp, sunburn is actually the #2 reason participants could be pulled off the trail. (Just a hint: The #1 reason happens when you don’t drink enough water…) From the start of Day 1, consider sunscreen your best friend and remember these pointers to get the most out of it.
Think about the SPF rating- you’re looking for 30 or higher. Please resist the urge to use tanning oil or bronzer- it just isn’t worth it.
While no sunscreen is truly waterproof, a water resistant sunscreen is a must.
Don’t forget your ears, inner thighs, feet, back of hands, and bald spots. These places face up to the sun while paddling but we can easily forget them.
All shade is good shade. This includes hats, long sleeves (like our branded Insect Shield shirts) and paddling under trees.
Keep an eye on your Scouts. They are having a blast, but sunscreen is the last thing on their mind. Sunscreen should be applied every time your trek stops to drink water.
Bonus Tip: Consider aerosol spray bottles rather than tubes. A tube of sunscreen is better than nothing but results in slimy hands and makes gripping the paddle tough for a little while.
